Here’s How Bulk Fuel Delivery is a Game-Changer for Large Operations

Large operations—spanning industries like construction, farming, and mining—often grapple with the complexities of fuel management. Procuring, storing, and distributing fuel to a fleet of vehicles or heavy machinery can be a logistical nightmare, leading to inefficiencies, downtime, and escalating costs.

Conrad and Bischoff’s bulk fuel delivery is a strategic solution, streamlining fuel management and offering a host of operational and financial benefits.
“The two biggest industries we service are wholesale customers and retail locations,” says Michelle Andreasen, Branch Manager at Conrad and Bischoff’s Idaho Falls facility. “Our bulk fuel facility, and the team behind it, allows us to ensure that our customers always have the fuel they need to ensure that their operations are never affected by fuel shortages.”

But What Exactly Is Bulk Fuel Delivery?

Bulk fuel delivery involves the direct supply of large quantities of fuel to a customer’s location, eliminating the need for frequent trips to retail fuel stations and card locks. The process typically involves:

  • Ordering: You place an order with Conrad and Bischoff, specifying the type and quantity of fuel required.
  • Delivery: The fuel provider (that’s us) delivers the fuel to the customer’s site using specialized tanker trucks. We typically use two different setups: transports, which are semi-trucks with tankards that deliver between 11,000 and 12,500 gallons of fuel, and tank wagons, which are body-mounted tanks that can deliver between 4,500 and 4,700 gallons of fuel.
  • Storage: The fuel is stored in on-site tanks, which can be above-ground or underground, depending on your requirements and local regulations.

Why Businesses Turn To Bulk Fuel Delivery:

1. Cost Savings with Bulk Fuel Delivery

Bulk fuel delivery offers significant cost savings through:

  • Lower Price per Gallon: Bulk purchasing allows you to leverage economies of scale and guarantee lower prices per gallon compared to retail fuel costs.
  • Reduced Fuel-Related Expenses: By eliminating the need for frequent trips to fuel stations, you save on vehicle wear and tear, labor costs, and fuel wastage.

“Like anything else, there’s a better price differential when you’re buying a bigger portion, which costs less for packaging, freight, and everything else to get it to you. It’s no different with fuel,” Conrad and Bischoff’s Andreasen says. “Buying in bulk, it’s actually better for us because it costs us relatively less to transport a 10,000-gallon load than it does a 500-gallon load. So you do save money buying in large quantities, definitely. In volatile markets, we have a lot of customers that we put on contracts, which is fixed pricing,” says Andreasen. “Because they sign a contract, it enables them to get more fuel at a better price.”

2. Operational Efficiency and Convenience

With fuel available on-site, you eliminate the downtime spent traveling to fuel stations, allowing equipment to remain productive and efficient. Additionally, it simplifies fuel logistics, freeing up resources and enabling you to focus on your core operations without the hassle of managing frequent fuel runs.
“Delivering large quantities of fuel is time intensive,” Andreasen says. “Our systems are in place to make everything easier on the ground for our customers.”

3. Enhanced Fuel Quality and Consistency

Conrad and Bischoff prioritizes fuel quality and consistency. Fuel testing takes place all along the supply chain, before it’s offloaded at our facility up to and including once it’s delivered into your storage tanks. We also use Power Service additives in our diesel to help minimize gelling concerns.
“We don’t ever want to have anybody’s motors gelling up, so we’re also able to blend #1 and #2 diesel together for our customers when it gets cold,” says Andreasen. “A lot of our customers have been around a long time, and they’ll tell us that they want a 70-30 blend of two and one with a little bit of Power Service added when the weather starts to change. They know exactly what blend, and if they don’t know, we let them know what we’ve done for them in the past.”

We also have very stringent procedures in place to ensure that fuel contamination does not take place. Safety rules and regulations are reviewed with drivers consistently to make sure that they’re following policies and procedures to prevent contamination.

4. Improved Inventory Management and Fuel Monitoring

For most of our clients, managing fuel inventory efficiently is a major challenge, particularly during periods of high demand or unpredictable usage. Without accurate data, you risk running out of fuel at critical times or over-purchasing, leading to increased costs and operational disruptions.

At Conrad and Bischoff, we address this challenge with cutting-edge solutions like Truefill software and Otodata tank monitoring systems.
“Our dispatchers enter customers’ ordering information into the Truefill software and that allows us to provide tracking to them on their fuel usage,” says Andreasen. “True Fill keeps extremely good records of everything that they do on a daily basis. It also helps us to project what is going to happen the following day compared to what’s happened in the past. It can also flag when they’re using fuel in an unusual way.”

The Otodata tank monitoring system complements this by giving customers real-time visibility into their fuel levels through an app while also maintaining a historical record of fuel usage. When enabled, dispatchers are alerted to low fuel levels and can either schedule automatic refills or contact customers to determine the best course of action.

By providing precise data on fuel consumption, these systems empower businesses to make informed decisions about usage, procurement, and cost forecasting, transforming fuel management from a logistical hurdle into a streamlined, efficient process.

Bulk fuel delivery is more than just a convenience or a “nice to have”. In today’s day and age of business, it’s a strategic advantage for large operations.

From saving time and reducing logistical burdens to ensuring consistent fuel quality and improving inventory management, it transforms the way you manage your fuel needs. But the key to unlocking these benefits lies in partnering with a supplier who truly understands your operations.

At Conrad and Bischoff, we bring decades of expertise, industry-leading technology, and a commitment to exceptional service. Our extensive delivery network ensures that your fuel arrives when and where you need it so your operations never miss a beat.

But that’s not all.

“The one thing we value most is our customer service. Our customers are our number one priority,” says Andreasen. “It doesn’t matter if it’s 100 gallons or if it’s 10,000 gallons, customer service is very important to us at a community level, as well as a corporate level. We take it very seriously when it comes to our fuel delivery. We’re always in personal contact. Our customers can call any of us at any time, including the salesman at any operational site. I think that’s very important when you’re dealing with fuel because sometimes, you might not realize you’re low, but you can contact us directly, and we can always make it work.”

We’re also flexible in our deliveries.

“If it’s a location that has very limited access, and they need a large amount of fuel, we do have the ability with our tank wagons to ensure delivery because it’s a single body mount and can get into tighter places and we do that a lot,” says Andreasen. “We always help out the transport side. Our teams work very well together.”
